Created and Presented

The project, created and presented by Pete Garcia and Beth Callender of the non-profit URBAN INTERVENTIONS and Chloé Lauer, Urban Planner, is fiscally sponsored by the San Diego Public Spaces Foundation.

Established by Beth Callender and Pete Garcia, URBAN INTERVENTIONS is a nonprofit that creates and funds public art and placemaking installations and events to transform underserved places with innovative, high-impact, fast and low-cost interventions.

Pete had a long, successful career as a designer, builder, developer, and owner of real estate projects, including residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional projects throughout the western U.S., Hawaii, and Costa Rica – including IDEA1 in downtown San Diego’s East Village neighborhood.

Prior to forming URBAN INTERVENTIONS with Pete, Beth had a long career in marketing communications including co-owning Greenhaus, as an award-winning advertising and marketing firm. They share a passion for places, urban spaces, and making a difference.

URBAN INTERVENTIONS

On a mission to make our cities beautiful, accessible, and vibrant places for everyone, Chloé is the Executive Director of the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition.

Her 501c3 non-profit, Walk n Roll San Diego, creates educational reels on TikTok to call out dangers facing pedestrians and bicyclists and hold the city accountable for safe streets.

With an Urban Planning degree from Harvard, Ms. Lauer started her career in San Francisco, working with universities to plan their campuses. In San Diego, she collaborates with community-based organizations, advocacy groups, agencies, developers, and business districts. Chloé serves on multiple boards, speaks at conferences, design schools, on podcasts, and on the news.
